Trap, Neuter and Return!!

Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is a humane and effective method to manage the number of free roaming/living community cats immediately and reduce their numbers naturally in the long term.

For many years, Coos county and our neighboring areas have been the home to a large number of uncontrolled community free roaming cats, feral or stray cats. Until recently, the problem has been ignored except for the admirable efforts of local animal rescuers.

But now a solution is at hand. S/Nipped's has been instrumental in bringing together concerned local animal welfare organizations, activists and colony care takers to form a coalition of supporters dedicated to reducing the counties free roaming cat population through the use of the method known as "Trap-Neuter-Return."

"TNR," as it is commonly known, involves trapping street cats, getting them neutered/spayed and vaccinated including rabies, then returning them to their outdoor homes where caretakers provide regular food and shelter. Management of the colony includes watching for disease and for any newcomers. Kittens, noise and odor are dramatically reduced and over time, the number of cats declines.

S/Nipped's Trap Neuter and Return Project continues to form public and private partnerships with Oregon Communities. Our goal is to develop sustainable long-term solutions to effectively manage feral and stray cat populations. Not only is TNR and manage humane, it is the only method proven to permanently reduce the number of cats. It is the only solution that actually works.
